Why must we tear the next woman down, to build ourselves up? I ask this question after browsing my various social media feeds.  Over the past couple of days I have been bombarded with statuses, posts, and tweets that were caddy, negative, and derogatory towards women... the sad part about this is that they were all posted by other women.  The posts focused on attacking the weight, physical beauty, and fashion choices of young ladies who dared to be different.  Listed below are the comments I saw along with my thoughts: Social Media Comments My Thoughts "You only cute on snapchat" At least she found something that works for her "No one wants to see all of your fat; cover it up" ...And how does her fat offend you? "No Edges having, (insert expletive)" What if she had alopecia? "He only with her cause she taking care of him" Sounds like something someone miserable ...

A couple of days ago I did my first protein treatment ever! In the two years that I have been natural, I had never done a protein treatment... I know, I know. It's sad... but I'm not your average Naturalista; I don't follow the norm.   I decided to try it after talking to my cousin about her own natural-hair journey. Since this was going to be my first time doing a protein treatment, I wanted to try something easy and light.  I decided to use ORS Hair Mayonnaise and the results were really amazing. Check out my results: In honor of my first successful protein treatment, I wanted to share with you all some of the benefits: *Strengthens hair that is weak and brittle *Gives curls more body (my curls also looked more defined) *Gives hair a gentle sheen *Provides nutrients that promote healthy hair growth   **Just be sure not to overuse the product and follow the instructions on the container.** **Results may vary from person to person** ...
As my tag line suggests, I am all about loving and embracing your curves.  I am in a place where I have accepted my perfectly imperfect body. This was years in the making, however. I didn't always feel confident in my own skin. Before I became pregnant with my daughter, I only weighed about 135 pounds. At the end of my pregnancy in 2010, I weighed a whopping 201 pounds. Ever since, I have struggled with maintaining my weight. My weight has ranged between 170 - 200 pounds from that point forward. I have cried, binged on food, exercised, cried some more, intermittently fasted, cried again, and so on.  It didn't help that I had loved ones telling me how fat I had become. So my self-esteem was definitely lacking. I'm sure some of you curvy ladies can relate. It literally took me five years to accept that I had more curves than the average person and that I would probably never be as small as I once was. Although I have embraced every curve and roll that I have on my b...
Transitioning  from relaxed hair to natural hair can be a total pain in the (insert expletive). It feels like you hair is ugly, unmanageable, and unkempt. Trust me, I've been there.  I transitioned for a little over a year before I cut off my relaxed hair, so I went through so many negative emotions as I transitioned. I'm here to help you avoid the negativity! So what exactly is transitioning?   Transitioning is a process in which you refrain from relaxing your hair and allow your hair to grow naturally; free from any chemicals that may alter the texture and curl pattern of your hair.  For those of you that have taken the step to stop relaxing here are some tips to keep you sane as you make the big switch. Make sure you keep your hair moisturized   Invest in a good leave-in conditioner and a good oil such as jojoba oil or coconut oil in order to seal in the moisture.  Don't be afraid to experiment with different hairstyles Pick styles that will allow...
I had never been too keen on using flexi rods when I first became natural. Whenever I would use them, my hair never looked sleek and uniformed. Instead, I looked like a chocolate troll doll. To say the least, it was a straight up CURL FAIL .  Because of this, I would only use them, whenever I had a sew-in. I soon realized that I was doing them all wrong. I never rolled them tight enough, I didn't use enough foam, and I never let them dry completely. I finally decided to give them a second chance with the help of my awesome hair stylist.  If you are interested in purchasing flexi rods, they can be purchased by clicking Here . In order to achieve this look follow the steps below: 1. Cleanse and Condition your hair. It is best to start on clean hair.  I chose to deep condition my hair. Be sure to start at your ends and work your way up to the roots in order to prevent hair breakage. Also moisturize with a spray bottle to help you detangle without the OUCH....
